A former bank trader jailed for rigging interest rates in the global financial crisis found an unlikely confidante in Amanda Knox, the Mail on Sunday can reveal.
Tom Hayes, who served five years of a 14-year prison sentence, struck up an email friendship with Knox, found guilty in 2007 of killing her British flatmate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy.
He made contact with Knox – nicknamed Foxy Knoxy – after his mother put a copy of Knox's memoir, Waiting To Be Heard, in a bag she had packed for her son to take into prison.
Knox, 36, was eventually cleared of Meredith's killing in 2015.
Hayes said he was 'very affected' by her story and 'felt moved to write to her' to tell her how much her book had meant to him.
