Gareth Southgate has an abundance of talent to choose from as England manager and that becomes even more clear when you look at the market value of the seven players he axed from his Euro 2024 squad on Thursday.

Southgate named his final 26-man squad ahead of Friday's friendly against Iceland with the omissions of Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Harry Maguire dominating the headlines.

Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Trafford were also axed, leaving England fans to debate whether the manager had got it right or not.

Southgate has one of the hardest jobs in international football when it comes to selection and you can see that by studying respective values of the seven players who now won't be travelling to Germany.

Maddison, who had been in line to play in Friday’s final warm-up fixture, is valued by Transfermarkt at £60m, a significant increase from the £40m Tottenham signed him for last summer.

Jack Grealish and James Maddison were omitted from Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024

Grealish, meanwhile, has an estimated market value of £51m which is almost 50 per cent drop from the £100m Man City paid for him in 2021.

The omission of Jarrad Branthwaite received particular criticism from England fans with the team already looking thin defensively.

The Everton centre-back is deemed to be worth £36m after an impressive campaign.

Liverpool midfielder Jones is not far behind him at £30m while Quansah sits at £19m.

The study also makes for bleak reading for Maguire, whose value is now £65m down from the the £80m United spent on him in 2019.

Mauire, who remains the most expensive defender of all time, hasn’t played since April and his injury means Southgate will be entering into a tournament without him for the first time.
