Once regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, JT Daniels is hanging up the cleats for good and retiring from football.
Daniels was reportedly advised by doctors to retire after he sustained multiple concussions over the course of his career.
Those reports also indicate that Daniels plans to get into coaching now that his playing career has come to an end.
Daniels' career was one of ups and downs and - probably most importantly - unfulfilled potential.
He was a member of the vaunted high school class of 2018 - a group full of quarterbacks who have since gone on to the NFL.
Former USC, Georgia, West Virginia, and Rice QB JT Daniels is retiring from football
One of the top players in the nation out of high school, Daniels committed to USC
After two seasons - one shortened by a serious injury - Daniels transferred to Georgia
Daniels was rated as the third best QB in that class - a five star with a 99 rating according to 247Sports. The only two quarterbacks ahead of him were Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.
He committed to go to USC and won the starting job as a freshman - becoming the second quarterback to do so since Trojans legend Matt Barkley.
Season one was a year of rough starts. Daniels managed 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns and ten interceptions across an eleven game schedule - missing one game due to concussion - as the Trojans went 5-7.
He won the starting job again as a sophomore, but tore his ACL in the first game of the season against Fresno State - sitting out the rest of the year.
Daniels hit the transfer portal in 2020 and moved to the University of Georgia - where he was expected to make an impact.
Instead, he lost the battle to D'Wan Mathis who was then replaced by Stetson Bennett. Daniels didn't make a start until Week 12 against Mississippi State - but then kept the job for the rest of the season.
In 2021, Daniels was expected to be the frontrunner as a starter - a job he took. But injuries saw him sit on the sidelines for a significant period as Bennett took most of the starts for the rest of the season.
After losing the job to national champion Stetson Bennett, Daniels struggled at West Virginia
He made one final transfer to Rice where, just like West Virginia, he was benched mid-season
Georgia won the national title that year and Bennett decided to stay in Athens - leading Daniels to transfer once again.
This time, he went up to West Virginia University and was named the starting quarterback that season. His inconsistent play led him to being benched by early November in favor of Garrett Greene.
Daniels transferred for a final time ahead of the 2023 season - going down to Houston, Texas and Rice University. Once again, he was named the starter. Once again, he was benched mid-season.
He finishes his six-year career with 9,390 yards in total, 66 touchdowns, 32 interceptions, a career completion rating of 62.9 percent and a passer rating of 139.9.
