Royal Mail launches a new set of eight stamps to mark the 60 years of daring Red Arrow displays

This year marks 60 years of daring displays by the Red Arrows and Royal Mail is marking the occasion with a thrilling set of stamps.

The main set of eight feature images of the RAF Aerobatic Team's red, white and blue trails in the sky.

An additional sheet of four stamps showcases performances above landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Niagara Falls.

Officially established in 1964, the Red Arrows and their Gnat jet trainers became the showpiece of the RAF.

Now in their 60th season and flying BAE Systems Hawks in displays since 1980, the Red Arrows continue to demonstrate their teamwork and excellence around the globe. 

David Gold, Royal Mail's director of External Affairs and Policy said: 'During important national celebrations such as His Majesty's Coronation, and representing the UK globally, the Red Arrows have entertained us with spectacular displays of aeronautical excellence.

'We are proud to mark their 60th season with these striking new stamps.'

The Red Arrows treated thousands of Royal fans to a fly past at the end of Trooping the Colour which involved 34 different aircraft.

In a highly-choreographed display, the aircraft took off from RAF bases from across the United Kingdom before flying down the length of The Mall and over the balcony at Buckingham Palace.

Each of the 10 waves had to arrive at the exact point at the correct altitude and time for its allotted time in the display.

The display ended with a nine-ship formation by the Red Arrows who trailed red, white and blue smoke as they powered over members of the Royal Family standing on the iconic balcony at Buckingham Palace.

The spectacular display at Trooping the Colour underscores the Red Arrow's 60th season in which they are due to fly 60 displays, including a tour of Canada.

Squadron Leader Jon Bond, team leader of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team for 2024 and flying as Red 1, said: 'This milestone season underscores the excellence, dedication and pride of all those who have worked for, supported or just simply watched a show by the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team across the last 60 seasons.

'As well celebrating this heritage, these new stamps - many of which feature brilliant images taken by skilled RAF personnel - will hopefully inspire many more people using the wonder of aviation, just like each of our colourful, dynamic displays.'

The stamps, and a range of collectible products, are available from today.
