Sam Kerr has jokingly compared her romance with Kristie Mewis to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship in an all-encompassing interview with Esquire Magazine.
Kerr, 30, and Mewis, 30, are football's golden couple, with fans obsessed with the pair's blossoming relationship ever since they first went public at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The couple met while they were both playing for competing clubs in the US league in 2019.
They spoke online for almost four months during the 2020 Covid lockdown before spending two weeks in quarantine together, where they quickly fell in love.
'I think we were chatting about a clothing brand one day, and then it kind of went from there,' Kerr said of the early days of their relationship.

Kerr and Mewis are icons in the lesbian community, who were delighted when the couple announced their engagement last month, and the Australian made a light-hearted comparison to one of the most recognisable couples in the world.
'It's Harry and Meghan, and us.'
The spotlight has intensified on Kerr since Australia's magical World Cup journey. She revealed she appreciates when fans approach her with warm words, but admits that the added media attention was an aspect she needed to adjust to.
'The part that's new to the Matildas, and myself, is that people are now talking about our personal lives, or what house we bought, or how much money we earn,' she said.
'And those [stories] are normally way off—they don't align with who I am, or with the truth.'

Kerr and Mewis have faced each other on the pitch a handful of times, notably on that occasion in Tokyo. The United States won on the day, and Kerr admitted she felt torn when she stepped onto the pitch.
'That one really sucked because it was such a s*** time for me, and such an amazing time for Kristie,' she added.
'It's so hard to want someone to lose when you love them so much.'
