Today has felt much more like a summer tournament after yesterday's downpours, writes AADAM PATEL

Lovely evening in Cologne. After the torrential downpours yesterday, this has felt much more like a summer tournament.

Both sets of fans in great spirits. Our trip up to the ground was filled with Scotland and Switzerland supporters trying to outsing the other. 'You can stick your Toblerone up your a**' was one that got a few laughs all round.

There may be more Scotland fans in town but it's pretty much 50/50 inside the ground and makes for a wonderful sight with a sea of Scottish blue to our left and Swiss red to our right.

Incase you missed it... Germany has been struck by torrential storms in recent days...

Cologne had been forced to cancel several events in the Euro 2024 fanzone ahead of tonight's match.

Hundreds of Scotland supporters made their way to the city ahead of the match but amid severe weather warnings, several fanzones had been closed for nearly an entire day.

STEPHEN McGOWAN: Manuel Akanji's Premier League experience may count in his favour tonight

Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji is one of two Swiss with first-hand knowledge of Scotland’s main men.

‘Of course, I know and have played against a lot of the Scottish players in the Premier League,’ said the defender.

‘John McGinn has had a really good season at Aston Villa. He’s powerful on the ball but also works so hard against it as well.

‘Scott McTominay has had a very good season at Manchester United too and everyone knows Andy Robertson, he’s been there for so many years on the wing for Liverpool. So we know Scotland has many excellent players.’

'Hopefully tonight you will see the real Scotland'

Speaking to the BBC, Steve Clarke was optimistic that his team would come out firing during this evening's clash.

It was always my intention to start Billy (Gilmour) in this game, that's why he starts. We do the same things, work the same way, and hopefully tonight you see the real Scotland.
What's been mentioned is that we have to do better than the first game. We believe if we play to the best of our abilities we'll get something from the game.

IAN HERBERT: Perhaps one rather niche reason for Scottish optimisim

A niche reason for Scottish optimism. The legendary Cologne FC anthem rung at this stadium takes the tune of the Bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond’ as its tune – because the lyricist liked it...

Warm ups are underway!

The atmosphere is building quickly at the RheinEnergieStadion!

Both Scotland and Switzerland are out on the pitch warming up ahead of this Group A clash.

A win would throw Scotland back on level terms with Switzerland, second in Group A, while a win for the Swiss would see them go level with Germany at the top of the group.

It's all to play for tonight!

No huge suprises in Steve Clarke's selection today, writes STEPHEN McGOWAN

No huge surprises in Steve Clarke's Scotland starting eleven. Norwich defender Grant Hanley comes in for the suspended Ryan Porteous. Brighton's Billy Gilmour replaces Ryan Christie as Clarke looks to secure more control in midfield.

Switzerland make one change, with Xherdan Shaqiri coming in for Kwadwo Udah, the unlikely goal hero in an impressive 3-1 win over Hungary.

Scotland's last win in a major tournament group game was 26 years ago... against Switzerland. The goalscorer that night, Ally McCoist, is here on ITV commentary duties.

There's been plenty of partying going on in the streets of in Cologne today too...

No Scotland, no party! The Scottish fans are making the most noise inside the stadium, writes IAN HERBERT

Hard to believe that any other nation could challenge the size of the Tartan Army, but there’s a huge red sea of Swiss fans in the stadium, 45 minutes out from kick-off, and they’ve been a huge presence in Cologne all day.

The Scots are making most noise though. ‘No Scotland, no party,’ they’re singing – desperate for at least a draw to keep their tournament alive.

And it's all over in the other Group A game - Germany have BEATEN Hungary 2-0 to qualify for the knockout stages

Germany have secured a place in the last 16 of the Euros with a 2-0 win over Hungary.

Goals in either half from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan were the rewards for another convincing performance following their 5-1 demolition of Scotland.

Scotland are in danger of making this major tournament malarky a regular occurrence after Steve Clarke's men breezed to qualification for Euro 2024.

Having gone more than two decades without an appearance at either at European Championship or World Cup, the boys in blue recorded back-to-back Euros qualifications courtesy of an eye-catching campaign that included big wins against Spain and Norway.

This time out the target will be a little bit of history, with Scotland having never made the knockout stages of any tournament.
