Secret Service 'solely responsible' for Trump security when he was shot, chief says

The head of the U.S. Secret Service has admitted the agency was 'solely responsible' implementing security when Donald Trump was shot by a would-be assassin.

Director Kimberly Cheatle had previously said local law enforcement had responsibility for the building from which gunman Thomas Crooks, 20, hit the president with a bullet on Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Cheatle has now told CNN:

At that particular site, we divided up areas of responsibility but the Secret Service is totally responsible for the design and implementation and the execution of the site.
