Aussie cricket fans have called for their World Cup heroes to be honoured with a tickertape parade - but many of the stars who took the title will have to remain in India to play a widely criticised T20 tournament.

Instead of jetting home to celebrate with family and friends, some of the biggest names in Australia's World Cup squad will stay in the subcontinent for the five-match series, which runs from November 24 to December 4.

The matches have been slammed as an example of cricket's cluttered and nonsensical schedule, as they finish just before the Big Bash League begins on December 7 and Australia's first Test against Pakistan is held on December 14.

The Aussies were showered with confetti after their win over India - but their chances of getting a tickertape parade back home aren't good thanks to cricket's overloaded schedule

Instead of coming home to celebrate the underdog World Cup win with family friends and fans, Aussie stars will be stuck in India until December as they play five T20 matches

To add insult to injury for fans from down under, India has named a hugely undermanned side for the T20 clashes, with only three of their World Cup squad picked to start the series.

In contrast, eight of Australia's Cup squad will be playing.

India's selectors named a 16-man group on Tuesday for the five match series, as players came to terms with their shattering loss to Australia in the final at Ahmedabad.

India aren't taking the T20 matches seriously at all, with Suryakumar Yadav (pictured) the only member of their World Cup final team to compete

Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain and will be the only member from the final that will be available to play in Friday's opener in Visakhapatnam.

World Cup squad members Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are also in the group, while top-order bat Shreyas Iyer will join them for the final two matches.

The fixtures mark the beginning of preparations for next year's global T20 tournament, but India's squad only includes three players who reached last year's semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in Australia, with Hardik Pandya also still injured.

News of the Aussie stars' enforced stay on the subcontinent will disappoint fans who are clamouring for the side to get a ticker-tape parade to mark their incredible achievement.

One of our great moments in Sport. Just chatting with a mate. Why don’t we celebrate our World Cup victory like other Countries? Surely it calls for a ticker tape parade through our Capital cities? Or do we just expect success from our Cricketers all the time. https://t.co/bDI8hXgCkO

Veteran Australian sport commentator Greg Clark led the charge with a social media post that read: 'One of our great moments in Sport ... Why don’t we celebrate our World Cup victory like other Countries? Surely it calls for a ticker tape parade through our Capital cities? Or do we just expect success from our Cricketers all the time.'

Other cricket supporters agreed, commenting 'Get out the ticker tape!', 'Well said Clarkie!' and 'Yep. World Champs! Give them a parade!'

One fan even called on the prime minister to stage the event in Sydney, writing, 'Ticker tape parade down George St? What do you think Albo?'

However, other fans pointed out that the T20 series stood in the way of any such event.

'Your cricketers are prepping for 5 x T20s vs India to start later this week. This is absolutely crazy scheduling,' one wrote.

Around 100,000 people lined the streets of Melbourne when the Australian cricket team were given a ticker-tape parade to celebrate their victory in the 1999 World Cup (pictured)

'Probably because they are playing again this week. Too much cricket,' another agreed.

Aussie cricketers got a ticker tape parade through Melbourne when they won the 1999 World Cup, with 100,000 people lining the streets for the occasion.

The national team also got the ticker-tape treatment in Sydney when they won the Ashes in 1989.
