Seven children were rushed to the hospital after a horror crash involving a day care van in Alabama.

The collision took place at around 7:30 a.m. near Kermit Johnson Elementary School in Pinson.

The kids were taken to Children’s of Alabama Hospital. The exact nature of their injuries is unknown.

Dramatic images of the aftermath show the mangled van wrapped around a tree.

 The driver had to be freed from the wreckage by fire crews but is understood to have sustained minor injuries

The collision took place at around 7:30 a.m. near Kermit Johnson Elementary School in Pinson

The vehicle's driver had to be extricated from the wreck by fire crews, WVTM reports. 

She sustained 'severe' injuries and was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham

The van belonged to a third part company transporting the children to the daycare. 

Their injuries were described as non-life threatening by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, CBS 42 reports. 

Emergency services remain on the scene and are urging motorists to avoid the area.

The crash took place on Bradford Road, near Highway 79.

It is not yet known what caused the driver to run off the road and hit the tree.
