Daniel Ricciardo's legion of fans will be excited to know that V8 Supercars bosses are targeting the recently axed Formula 1 superstar, saying the Aussie would be 'welcomed with open arms'.

Ricciardo has said farewell to a 'wild and wonderful' 14-year Formula One journey after the popular Australian driver was sacked by Red Bull Racing.

The eight-time F1 race winner was let go by his RB team last Thursday, an outcome which even the 35-year-old himself had been expecting after his disappointing 2024 campaign.

It means the end of a distinguished road for the former Red Bull and McLaren star who, over 14 seasons in F1, became one of the most popular and effervescent characters on the circuit, with his infectious smile lighting up the circus.

Ricciardo's F1 career is now over, but Supercars boss Shane Howard announced the category 'would certainly like to have him in one of our cars'.

'I think everyone would welcome Daniel with open arms, absolutely,' Howard told News Corp on Monday.

'Would we like to see Daniel Ricciardo in a Supercar? 100 per cent.

'Just imagine if he could be in one of our cars and race in a new street race in Perth, that would be something special, wouldn't it?

Supercars are planning to reach out to Daniel Ricciardo to see if he's interested in racing for the Aussie series

Supercars boss Shane Howard said the category welcome Ricciardo with open arms

'It would be massive. He is such an incredible driver and such an incredible personality and people just absolutely love him.

'Imagine him racing at Bathurst, wow. That would be very cool indeed.

'At an appropriate time, we would reach out to Daniel and his management.

'Blake Friend in his management team used to work for us at Supercars.

'At the right time, we would reach out, but we would certainly like to have him in one of our cars, 100 per cent we would.'

Ricciardo has mentioned that he'd be interested in racing Supercars, NASCAR and MotoGP in coming years.

Ricciardo has previously spoken about his desire to race at Mount Panorama

'There are some things I would love to do and Bathurst is one of them,' he explained in a Fox Sports interview in 2021.

'Once the chaos of my F1 career slows down it is certainly something I'd like to entertain one day.'
