Shocking dashcam footage has emerged showing the moment a car swerved across a motorway, narrowly avoiding being crushed by the wheels of a large truck.

The incident occurred on the Southern Expressway in Adelaide.

The car veered from the middle lane directly into the path of a B-double truck, but miraculously, it avoided a collision.

Dashcams Adelaide shared the video on Sunday with the caption: 'This could have ended a lot worse'.

Social media users quickly raised questions about whether the car was speeding, whether it was in a merge lane, and what the speed limit was.

'That's the southbound merge from Darlington entry,' one person wrote.

'Very common to see people doing all kinds of random s**t as the left merge lanes become one, the middle lane has slow trucks in it, and others trying to dart across to the right before getting boxed in.

'In this case, it looks like the Corolla was casually sitting right alongside the semi as the two lanes become one. Never going to come out a winner in that situation.'

'Thought I was watching a video game of Mario Kart and my opponent just drove over a suspiciously placed banana peel,' another said.

'Looks like the white car was trying to beat the semi in the left-hand lane as the two lanes from Marion Road become one,' a third added.

'White car should have fallen behind semi until it was safe to change into middle lane.'
