Shocking footage shows the moment engineer, 54, 'stabs boy, 17, to death and injures four others after the group branded him a PEDOPHILE and they fought over lost phone'

Distressing video shows the moment an engineer stabs a teenage boy to death while swimming in Wisconsin's Apple River because they called him a 'pedophile'.

In 2022, an altercation broke out between a 54-year-old man and multiple groups of people swimming and tubing in the Northern Wisconsin river.

The man was Nicolae Miu of Pior Lake, Minnesota, who is claiming that his lethal stabbing was 'self-defense' after the group of tubers claimed that the 54-year-old was 'looking for little girls.'

Two years later, the homicide trial has begun and prosecutors have set out to prove that Miu was the aggressor in the situation and have him sentenced for one count of first-degree intentional homicide and four counts of attempted homicide. The defense is arguing that Miu acted in self defense.

After witness testimony began on Monday, the court reviewed a video that captured the intense moments leading up to and during the stabbing.

Shocking video shows Miu aggressively approach the tubers, including the person recording, as they heckled him and laughed at him - telling him to 'walk away.'

A woman approached Miu ordering him to go away from the group, while one of the boys shouts 'he was looking for little girls.'

The video then shows the group push Miu down into the water repeatedly and hit him while he scrambled to get up.

Members of the group then began to shout, 'He hit a woman?'

The woman clutched her side in shock as blood began to pour out, and it became apparent that she had been stabbed.

Chaos ensued as the group quickly dispersed. The cameraman screamed 'this isn't real' as more blood stained the water.

The distressing footage then suddenly cut out.

Nicolae Miu, 52, of Prior Lake, was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide and four counts of attempted homicide after allegedly attacking a group on Wisconsin's Apple River

A witness, Ryan Nelson, 18, took the stand to recall the encounter, saying that his group of six had met up for a day on the river.

Nelson recalled how Miu ran up to the first tubing group, but didn't say why. He said he was scared and that the group asked the 54-year-old to leave several times.

He also claimed that his group didn't know the other group that intervened, but they also asked Miu to leave.

Nelson said that Miu never explained what he was doing and that he had been knocked to the ground after hitting the blonde woman.

When the prosecutor asked if Miu's arms were 'flailing' when he 'punched' the woman, Nelson answered no - saying 'it looked like he struck her definitively with his right hand.'

After the woman was struck, her friends 'tried to come to her rescue' and pushed Miu down.

Nelson says he wasn't hu but his friend, Isaac Schuman was the 18-year-old killed during the terrifying incident.

Schuman was pronounced dead at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater. The other four victims - Rhyley Mattison, 24 and three unidentified men, ranging in ages from 20 to 22, - were taken to a different hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

The violent altercation began after Miu, whose group was farther up the river, went back to find a 'phone that was lost' while wearing snorkeling gear, his wife, Sondra, told detectives, according to the criminal complaint.

While he was looking, Sondra said a 'group of guys got off their tubes and started hitting' him.

The group apparently accused Miu of 'looking for little girls' and being a 'child molester' after he had been snorkeling between two groups on each side of the river looking for the phone, according to a video viewed by the St. Croix DA's Office in Wisconsin.

The twenty-somethings approached Miu after spotting him chatting to a group of teenagers who looked 'uncomfortable,' as he was allegedly asking for the numbers of 'young girls.'

Isaac Schuman, 17, was found by emergency services 'without vital signs' and had a 'puncture wound in the upper abdomen near his left breast'

He was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead while the other four victims, who were not in his group, were taken to another hospital (pictured with his girlfriend Alyssa)

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Ryhley said, ‘I was with some friends tubing down the river, when a couple of them said that we needed to stop because there was a group of kids who looked uncomfortable.

‘There was an older man with them, so we stopped our tubes. The guys went over to see what was going on and then a few of my girlfriends and I also went over,' she said. 'They explained that this older guy was asking these younger boys if they knew younger women or could get him the numbers of some younger women. It was creepy.

‘I don’t really remember if someone said something to him, or exactly what was said, but then he punched my friend straight in the face.

‘I don’t know if I then said something to make him more upset, but then I remember him turning and staring at me and he put his hand down by my stomach.

‘He looked like he was going to punch me. I said to my friend I think he punched me, and “oh my god that hurt.”

‘I looked down and I was bleeding out because he stabbed me. After that, I just remember us trying to get away. '

Mattison obtained an injury to left side, according to the complaint. She claimed the other three injured were in her group and that they did not know the teenager.

‘I was the first one who was stabbed, and my other friend got cut from his bellybutton up. I have a punctured lung,' she told DailyMail.com. ‘The doctors had to open up my stomach to fix my diaphragm and they’ve stitched me up. I’m on a lot of pain medication.

Rhyley Mattison, 24, (pictured) was stabbed first by Miu after she came over to see what was happening

Around 15-20 people were on the river in tubes at the time of the attack on a Saturday in 2022

‘I think he had the knife between his fingers, I just saw that I was bleeding and I screamed call 911.'

Miu originally told police he obtained the knife off of tubers and fighting in 'self-defense,' but Sondra claimed the weapon had been clipped to his belt.

The DA's Office said that there was 'enough blood in the river that water turned a red tint in places.'

During an interview, Miu told him that he 'ran away' from the group and said Schuman's group 'produced two weapons.'

He claimed the group taunted him after he had asked them if they had seen his friend's phone and that one of the boys tried to 'pull his trunks down,' according to the complaint. Miu said he noticed the 'the kid had a knife on him' and someone else had a 'longer knife' that looked like a kitchen knife.

The engineer said he 'poked' the knife off the boy during the altercation after twisting his arm. He claimed 'they attacked me' and that he was 'in self-defense mode.'
