A young baby who was trapped inside the smoking wreckage of an overturned car was rescued by emergency workers this morning and taken to hospital.
Emergency services were called to Okehampton Crescent, Welling, Bexleyheath at 6.26am this morning after receiving reports of a crash where a care company car had flipped onto its roof.
A woman and a baby were involved.
Police and fire crews worked to safely remove the baby, trapped inside the vehicle, who was then handed over to paramedics for medical assessment.
Both the woman and baby were then taken to hospital.
A video which emerged from the scene, shows police and firefighters dealing with the incident, with the car lying on its roof and glass and debris scattering the road.
Police have confirmed no arrests were made and the woman and baby's injuries are 'not believed to be critical'.
The road remains closed and drivers have been urged to avoid the area.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We were called at 6.26am this morning (10 December) to reports of a road traffic collision in Okehampton Crescent, Welling.
'We sent an ambulance crew to the scene who arrived in less than seven minutes.
'We checked over a woman and a baby and took them to hospital.'
A spokesperson from Met Police added: 'Police were called by ambulance colleagues at 06:28hrs on Sunday, 10 December, to an overturned car in St Michael’s Rise junction with Okehampton Crescent, Welling.
'Officers attended along with LAS and LFB.
'A woman and a baby were taken to hospital as a precaution. Their injuries are not believed to be critical. There has been no arrest.
'The road remains closed at the location.'
