Simon Jordan believes Gareth Southgate should leave his role as England boss after Euro 2024... as he claims the Three Lions coach has had an 'average' tournament

Simon Jordan believes Gareth Southgate should part ways with England when his contract with the men's national side expires later this December.

The England manager has faced criticism for his tactics during Euro 2024, with many raising eyebrows over his squad selections and decisions to make substitutions during games.

On Wednesday, England booked their place in the final of the tournament, with Southgate's side besting the Netherlands 2-1 thanks to a dramatic 90th-minute winner from Ollie Watkins.

A game against Spain awaits England in Berlin on Sunday to decide the victors - with England having beaten Slovakia, Switzerland and the Netherlands in the knockout stages to reach the final.

Jordan has previously been vocal about his thoughts that Southgate should leave his post as England boss but has now reaffirmed that statement, claiming the England boss has had an easy route to the final but had been 'average'.

When asked by talkSPORT whether he thought Southgate should stay or go, Jordan said 'go'.

He added: 'So in context, having the most wonderful draws in every single tournament that he has been [to], being an average manager, I think is a fair assessment.'

'When you get an opportunity to win things, when you get the draws that we've had, you can only beat who is in front of you, there is no criticism of beating what's in front of you.

'If you get Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia and Switzerland and a very average Dutch side as your passage to a final, every single manager in the world of a significant footballing nation would say: "I'll have that all day".'

Throughout the tournament, Southgate has stuck with largely the same starting line-up, barring a few changes and has made late changes in games where many have advised him to make substitutions much earlier.

Some England fans, who were led by Piers Morgan, criticised the Three Lions boss for not making substitutions at half-time during their last 16 clash against Slovakia. England had gone a goal down during that clash, with Jude Bellingham's late bicycle kick sending the game to extra-time before Harry Kane produced the winner.

Posting to his millions of followers on X, Morgan said: 'No subs??!!! For God’s sake, Gareth.. what are you waiting for? Your P45?'.

Soughtate, meanwhile, has stated that he will be using the criticism from fans as 'fuel'

The England boss has also admitted that guiding England to the final of Euro 2024 was his 'greatest achievement'

The England boss has revealed that some have sent him criticism over the management of the team, with Southgate stating that he has been using 'resilience-building' criticism from fans as 'fuel' for England's Euros push.

‘This is a job where you get ridiculed, and your professional capability is questioned beyond belief, and I don't think it's normal to have beer thrown at you either,' he said last week.

‘But I'm fortunate that my life's taken me through a lot of resilience-building and it's made me more determined and I'm just using it as fuel.'

Following England's victory against the Netherlands last night, Southgate also delivered an emotional interview to reporters in which he again spoke out on the criticism.

'We all want to be loved, right?,' he said. 'So when you’re doing something for your country and you’re a proud Englishman, when you don’t feel that back and when all you read is criticism, it’s hard.

Piers Morgan has also previously hit out at Southgate's decision not hold off on making substitutions

'To be able to celebrate a second final is very, very special. Especially with fans that travel, our travelling support is amazing.

'The amount of money they spend to travel, the commitment to do that, to be able to give them nights like this. I think we’ve given them a few over the last six years, from Russia onwards. It means a lot.'
