Simone Biles reveals new Team USA nickname after they won more gymnastics gold at the Olympics

The 2024 gold medal-winning USA gymnastics team officially have a nickname: the Golden Girls. 

Simone Biles revealed the sweet moniker on social media after she and her four teammates came out on top in Paris earlier this week. 

'The official team name is golden girls,' she wrote on X, noting they chose the name because they're the 'oldest Olympic team.' 

Although Biles is a seemingly young 27, she and her teammates are America's oldest gymnastics team since 1952, with an average age of 22.467.

Hezly Rivera turned 16 last month and is the youngest member of the entire USA Olympic team, however Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee are all over the age of 21. 

Biles initially joked that their team name was 'F Around and Find Out,' however she later explained that their coach Cecile Landi helped inspire the official name they landed on. 

Several previous Olympic squads have had nicknames: the group that headed to London were the 'Fierce Five,' while the Rio gold medalists were dubbed the 'Final Five.' 

It comes amid Biles' ongoing feud with her ex-teammate, MyKayla Skinner, which came to a head after the team's gold medal-winning performance on Tuesday. 

Biles posted a photo of herself, Chiles, Rivera, Carey and Lee holding a USA flag in the air alongside the caption, 'lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions.'

It was a reference to Skinner, who recently sparked controversy by questioning the current American squad's 'work ethic' and dedication to their craft. 

Following the Instagram dig, Chiles revealed that Biles has now been blocked by Skinner on Instagram. 

The Texas native also took home a gold medal in the all-around event on Thursday.

Lee picked up a bronze medal after a sensational effort on the floor, with Brazil's Rebecca Andrade taking silver.
