Sir Jim Ratcliffe's £1.25billion investment in Manchester United is finally set to go through next week at a critical point in the season for manager Erik ten Hag.
Sources have confirmed that Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a quarter of the club from the Glazer family is expected to be announced early in the week.
The British billionaire will purchase 25 per cent of the A-shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange as well as 25 per cent of the Glazers’ B-shares which have greater voting rights. He will pump an additional £245m into the club to upgrade Old Trafford and Carrington.
Ratcliffe’s arrival comes at a crucial moment for Ten Hag as the Dutchman finds himself under renewed scrutiny following Saturday’s abject performance at Newcastle and facing discord in the dressing-room.
United’s Champions League fate will be decided next Tuesday when they face a must-win game against Bayern Munich while still reliant on the result of the other group tie between Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen.

Ten Hag’s side then travel to Anfield where he suffered a humiliating 7-0 rout at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool in March.
The 53-year-old desperately needs to bounce back from the Newcastle defeat at home to Chelsea on Wednesday and Bournemouth on Saturday amid growing unrest in the camp.
A number of senior players are said to be questioning Ten Hag’s approach and tactics. Some believe they have been made to train too hard this season while others feel the manager is too authoritarian.
Raphael Varane was left on the bench once again at St James’ Park following his fall-out with Ten Hag who then clashed with Antony Martial.
