Brundle is currently working in Austria as part of Sky's coverage of Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix that Max Verstappen will start on pole position.

However, the former driver is dealing with off-track issues while away after it was revealed that his marriage is under strain, as reported by The Sun.

Brundle and his wife remain married but are now taking space away from one another while next steps are decided.

Commenting on her marriage, Liz told The Sun: 'We are spending some time apart but we are married and together.'

Brundle is frequently away from home as his work schedule is largely dictated by the Formula One calendar that travels across the globe between March and December.

The racing veteran is one of the most popular characters on the grid, sharing a strong bond with drivers, team chiefs and celebrities in attendance at events.

His brash no-nonsense interview style has gained him worldwide popularity with racing fans, but has involved brushes with some of the world's biggest celebrities, recently with Kylian Mbappe's security team in Monaco.

The demands of his broadcasting work see's Brundle travel to Austria, England, Belgium and the Netherlands in the space of the next month.

Brundle has become the go-to man during grid walks and is a voice that carries authority within the sport, and raised attention with his comments on Christian Horner's saga at Red Bull during the start of the season.

Red Bull previously conducted an investigation into the behaviour of team boss Horner in a volatile scene for the sport that saw the reigning championship garage and F1's top brass in crisis mode.

Brundle at the time said: 'It's a global story. I think it's been a damaging story for Christian and Red Bull and all of Formula One.'

Horner was supported by his wife Geri Halliwell at the time and has proceeded to oversee another season of dominance so far for Red Bull and championship leader Verstappen.

Brundle is expected to be present conducting his usual pre and post-race interview duties at the Red Bull ring on Sunday.
