Soccer AM legend Tubes has opened up on the extent of his crippling alcohol addiction and his attempts to hide the dependency from his Sky colleagues.

The popular presenter, who spent 21 years at Sky before leaving the broadcaster last year, battled with alcoholism for a number of years and even admitted he had attempted to jump in front of a moving car at the height of his addiction.

Tubes - real name Peter Dale - has now been sober for several years but in an emotional interview with fellow broadcaster and friend Adam Smith, he laid bare the seriousness of his drinking, which affected his nights out with the Sky Sports team.

'I'd get such a buzz. My go-to was vodka,' Tubes said on the Under the Surface podcast, via the Original Penguin EU YouTube channel. 'I'd go all the way back to London and I'd know the pub that would open. I'd know everything. It was that bad.

'I've never really gone that much in depth about it until today. I knew every pub. We used to go for Thursday night drinks in Balham and also the pub down by Sky.

'I'd always say, "I'm just going to go and get some cigarettes". What I was actually doing... I knew I was going to be drinking so I knew I wouldn't be able to stop.

'I'd actually go and buy the little miniatures.'

Tubes previously conceded his addiction had affected his mental health and after he drank bottles of vodka 'like drinking water,' he attempted suicide.

'It was a joke. I'm not going to lie and I hate to say it but the amount of times I wanted to end it because it could completely ruin me,' he said on YouTube channel 'Tubes Golf Life'. 'Once I was pissed and tried to run in front of a moving car.'

Continuing to celebrate sobriety, he added: 'Do I feel better now? 100 per cent.

Tubes was a regular fixture on Soccer AM before the landmark show was shuttered last year

The broadcaster interviewed a host of footballers and was given a cake by Ilkay Gundogan

'I love life, I've got a good life. I love my job, I love my friends, I love my family and it's a fantastic life. I'm on a level keel now. There's no more ups and really massive lows.'

Mail Sport revealed last year that Soccer AM, a matchday staple for many supporters, would broadcast its final episode after running for almost 30 years.

Tubes was originally an assistant producer on the stalwart show but after becoming renowned for his short comical appearances was hander a greater role. Each week, he would interview guests in his 'one question and one question only' segment.

He was presented with a cake by Ilkay Gundogan during a visit to Manchester City's training ground last season and penned an emotional farewell message.

Soccer AM was replaced by Sky's lighthearted morning show, Saturday Social.
