Stephen A. Smith told New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to 'stay your a** home' as he's attempting a comeback to football less than three months after tearing his Achilles.
'You’re playing for nothing, what are we doing? Stay your a** home,' Smith said Friday. 'Go on the Pat McAfee show every Tuesday.'
'What purpose does it serve? It’s a stupid thing to do. Sit your ass home,' Smith continued.
Smith added that there's no competitive advantage to Rodgers
Rodgers tore his Achilles on September 11 and the injury typically comes with a six-to-nine-month recovery. Any return to the gridiron the rest of the regular season would severely buck that trend.
Aaron Rodgers returned to practice this week, less than three months after tearing his Achilles
Stephen A. Smith told Rodgers to 'stay your a** home' because of how quick a return would be
Rodgers has been teasing for weeks that he could return this season, in large part due to staying in the public eye even when not playing because of media appearances.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Rodgers' return to practice on Wednesday, 79 days after he tore his Achilles, or 11 weeks and two days after he suffered the injury against the Buffalo Bills.
New York is currently two games out of the last playoff spot in the AFC with a 4-7 record. The team has also lost four games in a row.
Should Rodgers return, he'd be back on the field for a team with longshot odds to make the postseason, which puts into doubt why the nearly 40-year-old, who celebrates the big birthday on Saturday, would want to put extra hurt on his body.
The Jets play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons before two touch matchups against the Houston Texans and the Miami Dolphins.
