Supernatural star Mark Sheppard was all smiles leaving a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday, just days after he almost died from suffering six 'massive' heart attacks.

The 59-year-old British actor doled out hugs to healthcare workers just six days after he was brought back to life four times following his heart attacks.

Sheppard wore a gray long sleeve shirt with matching pants and appeared to have post-op drainage tubes connected, which helps fluid flow out and prevent infection.

The actor said he suffered a 'widowmaker' - the deadliest kind of cardiac arrest which occurs when the largest coronary artery, the LAD, becomes blocked.

He credited his wife Sarah Louise Fudge with saving his life and said he felt 'humbled' by the near-death experience.

Sheppard posted a photograph of himself laying in a hospital bed at Providence St Joseph California looking bedraggled with several heart monitor devices attached to his chest.

'You're not going to believe this!' the father-of-three told his 1.7 million Instagram followers on Saturday.

'Was on my way to an appointment yesterday when I collapsed in my kitchen.

'Six massive heart attacks later, and being brought back from dead four times I apparently had a 100 percent blockage in my LAD. The Widowmaker.

'If not for my wife, the @losangelesfiredepartment at Mullholland and the incredible staff @providencecalifornia St Joseph's - I wouldn't be writing this.

'My chances of survival were virtually nil. I feel great. Humbled once more. Home tomorrow! #spnfamily.'

The LAD is the largest coronary artery, which carries almost 50 percent of the blood to the heart, according to the New York-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Sheppard's co-star Misha Collins, 49, called his miraculous resurrection 'impressive' and sent the London-born actor his love on Instagram.

'Mark! You don't need to do the most and biggest every time!' Collins said.

'Six heart attacks? Two or three would have been impressive enough. You've impressed us, okay.

'Now stop with this heal up and get back on the road with us. Love you, pal.'
