Sydney Sixers star Erin Burns took the catch of the WBBL season on Thursday - but her team now need a miracle to make the finals after another Beth Mooney masterclass powered the Perth Scorchers to a 61-run win.

Burns, a qualified physiotherapist, produced one of the most incredible moments of the season when she flew across North Sydney Oval to dismiss Amy Jones.

Usually renowned for her batting, Burns had to make up plenty of ground and also contend with teammate Maitlan Brown, who was hurtling towards the ball near the fence.

But Burns focused on the task at hand, collecting an absolute screamer in the deep, much to Jones' dismay.

Cricket fans were impressed on social media, with one drawing comparisons to Glenn McGrath's famous outfield grab against England at the Adelaide Oval in 2002 which sent Michael Vaughan back to the pavilion.

Another stated: 'Oh my Erin Burns, that was out of this world.'

A third chimed in with: 'Catch of the season, male or female.'

Despite Burns' heroics in the field, the away side still managed to post an imposing 6/189 from their 20 overs, with Beth Mooney's unbeaten 91 from 57 balls the highlight.

She dazzled at the crease, plundering nine boundaries before also clearing the rope on four occasions as she carried her bat across the innings.

Mooney has now scored 509 runs this season to lead the race for the Golden Bat.

In response, the Sixers could only muster 128, ending their four-game winning streak.

Ellyse Perry looked in vintage touch at the top of the order, but when she was run out by Piepa Cleary for 40, the Scorchers assumed control.

Charlotte Edwards' Sixers now find themselves three points outside the top four, with their remaining three fixtures against teams above them on the ladder.
