Swiss Airlines flight from Newark is forced to turn back when abusive flyer tries to break into the COCKPIT and wreaks havoc around the cabin

A Swiss Airlines flight from New Jersey to Switzerland was forced to turn back to and make an emergency landing after a passenger tried to break into the cockpit, according to officials.

Flight 19 to Zurich took off from Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday night but the pilot contacted authorities shortly after due to an unruly passenger, as reported by NJ.com. 

The plane, an Airbus A330, landed back in Newark just before 11pm and the passenger was removed by police, according to Port Authority.  

Before the landing, the pilot stated PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN on a call - the aviation acronym for 'possible assistance needed.'

The pilot informed officials on the ground that the unruly passenger was 'getting worse' and 'tried to enter the cockpit,' as reported by the New York Post

'We couldn’t restrain the passenger. He is freely moving through the cabin,' the pilot added. 

A crew member was injured in the incident and taken to a local hospital, the airline said. 

The flight was cancelled after the emergency landing. 

'The passenger behaved abusively towards the crew,' Swiss airlines said in a statement. 

The 233 passengers were to be rebooked for a another flight, according to the airline. 

Officials did not reveal additional information on the passenger's outburst and his name has not been revealed.
