Witnesses told police they saw the alleged victim engaging in a road rage incident with a driver in a white ute (pictured) with a metal tray, a black canopy and a black toolbox with metal racks on top
It is understood the alleged victim, who was wearing high visibility clothing and jeans, was in a red Ford Ranger which is believed to have been in an earlier traffic incident with the white ute.
Witnesses say he then got out of the Ford and tried to stop the other vehicle when he was allegedly fatally struck.
Debbie Cremen, who has lived in the street for 25 years, witnessed paramedics working on the 27-year-old man.
'It was extremely confronting. He had been dragged from his ute and was lying in the road,' she told Daily Mail Australia.
Horrified staff members of the nearby Marrin Weejali Aboriginal Corporation, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre, saw the incident unfold outside their building.
‘I can’t even put it into context,' one staff member said.
'He got out his car, I don’t even know what he was planning on doing.’
Police investigations into the incident continue.
