Tadej Pogacar delivered another masterclass in the high peaks on the penultimate day of the Tour de France to strengthen his hold on the yellow jersey.
Pogacar raced away from main rival and defending champion Jonas Vingegaard at the top of the Col de la Couillole, the final climb, on a brutal day in the Alps.
That was the fifth mountain stage win of the tour for Pogacar, who heads into Sunday's final time trial into Nice with a lead of more than five minutes on Vingegaard.
‘If you told me this before the Tour, I wouldn’t believe it,’ he said of his quintet of stage wins. ‘One would be enough. Just the yellow would be enough.’
Adam Yates, currently in sixth place overall, is set to be the best-placed British rider.
