Team GB have hired former BBC weatherwoman Penny Tranter to provide forecasts for them during the Games.

Tranter, who was on the Beeb between 1992 and 2008 and now works for the Met Office, will provide British Olympic chiefs with a daily two-page weather report, as well as keeping an eye on longer-term trends.

Her expertise will help Team GB be prepared should temperatures in Paris - which are currently below 30 degrees - soar over the next fortnight, as was feared earlier in the summer.

Greg Retter, Team GB’s head of performance services, said: ‘She is forecasting for us on a daily basis but she is also forecasting further ahead so she can see trends in the weather.

‘Those trends will help to give us advance notice of whether we need to change our plans for how we deliver our performance services across the footprint.

‘At the moment, it’s relatively settled weather. We are not predicting any high levels of high temperatures over a sustained period.

‘But one of the biggest things we were concerned about was extreme heat. So she is warning us if there is anything coming ahead that we need to know about, so we are able to put in place some mitigations.’
