A brown bear terrorised three Russians by trying to claw its way into their car and climbing onto the bonnet after they broke down on a remote stretch of road.

Footage taken by the front-seat passenger shows the terrifying moment the young bear attacked their Honda C-RV, rocking the vehicle and tearing off a windscreen wiper.

The driver tried to scare it off by repeatedly blasting the horn and revving the engine as the bear tried to break in.

The beast appeared unbothered however, ignoring the noise and continuing to scratch at the paintwork and windows.

The two women and one man in the car were waiting to be rescued after the car's clutch failed on Sakhalin, Russia's largest island, when the incident took place.

One woman in the SUV can be heard screaming with fear.

Speaking in Russian, one female voice said: 'He's about to climb onto the car. That's it, he climbed onto the car!'

As the bear finally got off the car and tore off the windscreen wiper on the driver's side, a woman said: 'No, not the wiper.'

The driver replied: 'To hell with it,' apparently relieved they had not been attacked.

Eventually, the predator vanished and was later seen lying on the side of the road.

It is understood that bear's behaviour may be linked to drivers feeding bears on remote roads, leading to them coming close to cars than in the past.
