The New York Yankees and San Diego Padres have hit a serious roadblock in their trade negotiations for three-time All-Star Juan Soto.

It's claimed the two teams haven't spoken since the Padres requested a six-player package that included pitchers Michael King and Drew Thorpe. That's according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

It was also recently reported by USA Today that the Yankees refused to give up King and Thorpe in any deal with San Diego.

Thorpe is ranked the Yankees' No. 5 best prospect in MLB's 2023 rankings and if he lives up to his potential is expected to be a foundational piece of a team's starting rotation for years to come.

King made 49 appearances and threw for a 2.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 127 strikeouts in 104.2 innings. Nine of the 28-year-old's appearances were as a starter.

The rift between the Yankees and Padres has 'made the Toronto Blue Jays favorites for Soto'

The rift between the Yankees and Padres has reportedly led to the Toronto Blue Jays now being considered the favorites to acquire the four-time Silver Slugger.

San Diego originally acquired Soto via a massive trade in 2022, but the Padres offense never delivered anything near the expected results after combining his talents with superstars Fernando Tatis.

The Padres ended the season with an 82-80 record but Soto still put up impressive numbers during the year. He finished the season hitting .275, 35 home runs, and 109 RBIs after playing in all 162 games.

The 25-year-old also drew 132 walks during the year.
