Arsenal ensured the title race went to the final day on Sunday as they edged past Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Leandro Trossard's first half goal was enough for Mikel Arteta's side to put the pressure on Manchester City and go top of the table once again, with City having two games left to play and Arsenal one.

It was a reasonably straightforward win for the visitors, and, though they may have hoped to have scored more, never looked troubled at the other end of the field.

For United, their poor form continued, with pressure continuing to mount on Erik ten Hag and European qualification for next season looking unlikely.

Mail Sport's Chris Wheeler takes a look at some of the things you may have missed.

Leadership on show... off the pitch

There was no shortage of leaders at Manchester United on Sunday, if only in the directors' box at Old Trafford.

Labour Party leader and Arsenal season-ticket holder Sir Keir Starmer was in attendance as a guest of Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

Earlier, Starmer met with United's minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Lord Coe, head of the taskforce driving regeneration plans for Old Trafford, to discuss the future of the stadium.

Ratcliffe's Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford and new technical director Jason Wilcox were also with him at the game.

Meanwhile, Avram Glazer represented United in the Royal Box at Wembley to see United's women's team lift the FA Cup by beating Tottenham.

Ratcliffe sent a good luck message to coach Marc Skinner and the players in the morning, and posted his congratulations on social media, while several senior Ineos officials were also at Wembley.

Amad takes his chance

Amad Diallo made the most of his opportunity after being picked on the right wing ahead of £86milion man Antony.

It was Diallo's first Premier League start in almost three years, going back to a 2-1 win at Wolves in May 2021, a few months after he joined United from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £38m.

No sign of injuries improving

United's injury problems were evident from the team sheet, with Erik ten Hag once again having to rely on an emergency centre-back combination of Casemiro and Jonny Evans.

It is Ten Hag's 14th different pairing of the season, twice as many as any other Premier League club. Arsenal have used just three.

Aside from Christian Eriksen and Antony, United's seven other substitutes on Sunday had a total of 18 first-team appearances among them this season before kick-off.

Ten Hag revealed that captain Bruno Fernandes was a late withdrawal, missing his second game in a row despite training for two days.

United have now conceded 82 goals this season, the club's most in more than half a century

An unwanted record

Leandro Trossard's goal was the 82nd that United have conceded in all competitions this season, the most in more than half century stretching back to 1971.

United equalled a club record ninth home defeat of the season for the first time in 50 years, and 19 in total in a single campaign for the first time since 1978.

In contrast, Arsenal set a club record of 27 wins in a 38-match league season. Their last seven league wins at Old Trafford have all been by a 1-0 scoreline.
