Ukranian tennis star Marta Kostyuk will prepare for her second-round match at Wimbledon on Thursday in unorthodox fashion - by donning her wedding dress.

The world No19 battled past first-round opponent Rebecca Sramakova in dominant fashion, beating the Slovakian in no-nonsense straight sets, but even more eye-catching was her Wilson tennis dress, a simple white dress with a plunging neckline, flared skirt, and a cut-out at the back.

But Kostyuk had already notably worn the dress - albeit in more ornate style - on her wedding day, when she plumped for the tennis label to design her bridal look after signing with them in January 2023.

Kostyuk became Wilson's first head-to-toe brand ambassador, and worked with the label to design the outfit for her special day, adding an embroidered sheer overlay to what is now her on-court Wimbledon staple

The 22-year-old shared that her idea for the design had stemmed from her desire to feel comfortable and fluid on her wedding day, after beginning the process with no sense of the dress style she wanted to wear.

The dress - both with a cover-up and without - is available for purchase from Wilson online

'I think a lot of girls know exactly how they want their wedding dress to look but I had no idea what I wanted, or what I liked,' Kostyuk told Vogue

'I wanted something very simple but at the same time something that you will remember. I just knew that I didn’t want the kind of wedding dress that weighs 200 kilos, or anything that’s either so complicated or so fragile that you can’t move and you can’t enjoy being around people.

'The idea and the story behind this dress is, I think, by far one of the best in tennis. I don't know if ever but for sure, right now.'

Kostyuk married her now-husband George Kyzymenko in Cyprus in November of last year after first becoming friends as children.

But now, the player will be able to see scores of fans and non-professionals sporting the dress she wore on her special day.

Wilson has released the dress as the 'Marta', which retails for £155 - or £235 if purchased with an added sheer overlay, which features covered buttons at the waist.

'The kit is the same as the wedding dress,' Kostyuk shared via Wilson, 'it is about being light, comfortable, feminine, beautiful.

Kostyuk will face Daria Saville on Court 14 on Thursday afternoon in her second round clash

'Everything that was in my wedding dress is the same in the tennis dress because it's the way I live my life on and off the court.'

Kostyuk had turned heads before the start of the tournament after featuring as part of Vogue Ukraine's showcase of Ukrainian athletes taking part in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

Kostyuk, along with her compatriots Elina Svitolina, Anhelina Kalinina, and Dayana Yamstremska, will feature in the women's singles, and partner with Yamstremska in the doubles in this French capital.

The Olympic debutant posed for her portrait topless, wearing a white tennis skirt on the eve of the tournament in SW19.
