Turkey's stars celebrated reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 by ordering 300 doner kebabs to their four-star hotel in Germany.

Vincenzo Montella's side have managed to make it through to the last eight, where they will take on the Netherlands on Saturday.

They celebrated by snubbing the healthy food usually eaten by footballers and enjoyed kebabs instead.

As reported by BILD, a large order was placed at Lister Doner in Hanover after Turkey progressed to the last-16 and this was repeated after they got through to the quarter-finals.

Restaurateur Daldar Junaid told BILD: 'I got a call and someone said I was the team manager of Turkey and would like to order 300 kebabs. I would like them in three hours. I could hardly believe it.'

Real Madrid's Arda Guler was also seen visiting the restaurant in Hanover

One of the Turkey players, who wasn't named, is said to have had three kebabs to himself

Junaid revealed that one player ate three kebabs but he refused to disclose the identity of the individual.

He said: 'They invited everyone: the staff alone consisted of 150 people, plus security, police, hotel staff, everyone.

'The players enjoyed it. One even ate three kebabs. But I won't say who. It's a trade secret!'.

Former Everton and Crystal Palace forward Cenk Tosun, who is now back at Besiktas, was amongst the players seen visiting the restaurant, with Real Madrid's Arda Guler also pictured.

After fresh kebabs were served for over three hours, the catering team was presented with a signed Turkey shirt.

Turkey has filed an application to have the doner kebab protected by the European Union (Stock image)

Turkey finished in second place in Group F behind Portugal.

Following that, Montella's side won 2-1 against Austria in the quarter-finals, with goalkeeper Mert Gunok producing what has been hailed as one of the greatest saves of all time to deny Christoph Baumgartner's header.

Doner kebabs are extremely popular in Turkey, with the country having filed an application to have the doner kebab protected by the European Union. However, this has been disputed by Germany.

Turkey plans to register the name doner in Europe so that it can only be used by those conforming to the registered production method.

Complaints could also arise from Greece.
