Tourist slammed over idiotic stunt at the Apurva Kempinski hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali

A man has become the latest tourist visiting Bali to cop online backlash for an 'inappropriate' and disrespectful act at a five star hotel.

The shocking stunt is believed to have been filmed from inside the Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua, on the Indonesian island's south coast.

The viral video showed the well dressed man approaching a large metal bowl filled with water and flower petals before he was urged by a woman to 'put your face in it'. 

He leaned over to submerge his head but accidentally tipped over the decorative bowl as water and petals spilled across the lobby.

The video has since attracted almost 30,000 TikTok views.

Many furious viewers claimed the man reaffirmed negative opinions of tourists on the island with his 'stupid' actions.

'Well that's just lovely isn't it, so careful and respectful and cultured,' a viewer commenters.

Another added: '(Your) vacation is over pack your bags.'

A third reminded the man that 'this is why we don't touch things we're not supposed to touch'.

Locals quickly joined the bandwagon of backlash. 

'You come to Bali without bringing your brain ... why have to destroy everything in someone else's country (sic),' they wrote.

Some wondered whether the tourist helped clean up or pay for the damage afterwards.

Other viewers came to the tourist's defence and argued that the act wasn't as bad as some made it out to be.

'I mean it's just a bowl of water and flowers ... Just say you're sorry,' a user wrote.

Another added: 'Honestly, it's not your fault. There should be something to lock the plate.'

Many other viewers admitted they would be 'mortified' if it had happened to them.

'I would just lay on the floor like I passed out,' one commented.

Another added: 'I would leave the country.'

Others were eager to find out what happened afterwards. 

The stunt is the latest in a long line of incidents involving tourists on the island since it reopened to international travel in 2022 following the pandemic. 

Incidents have included naked tourists in front of sacred monuments and urinating in public places. 

Since February, international tourists have had to pay 150,000 Indonesian Rupiah (about A$15) to pass through Bali's Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar, or any of the island's sea ports

Tourists will have to pay the tax every time they enter the island, in addition to an existing $50 e-visa that has been in place since May 2022.

Bali Governor's Wayan Koster said the tax will help fund efforts to preserve Bali's rich 'culture and environment' and make the destination less attractive to 'cheap' tourists.

'Now they're trying to make sure the tourists that are coming are behaving in the most appropriate way and culturally sensitive to Indonesian and Balinese cultural ways and more,' Australian travel expert Quentin Long previously told Yahoo News.
