Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis earned a chuckle out of Donald Trump and massive cheers during his 'unity' speech on Day Two of the Republican National Convention.
Trump's former 2024 rival said America can't afford another term with the country being run like a Weekend at Bernie's, referencing the movie where a work group turns their deceased boss into a puppet to pretend he is still alive.
'Let's send Joe Biden back to his basement and let's send Donald Trump back to the White House!' DeSantis said at the top of his remarks at the Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday.
DeSantis joins other Republicans who do not think President Joe Biden is in charge of running the country and say he is not mentally or physically fit for another term in office.
The Florida governor spoke at the Convention following remarks by fellow Republican primary candidate Nikki Haley. Both appeared at the request of Trump, who wanted to show unity within the GOP after officially becoming the nominee for November's election just two days after an assassination attempt.

'Our country was respected when Donald Trump was our commander-in-chief,' DeSantis said. 'Joe Biden has failed this nation.'
'As a citizen, as a husband and as a father, I am alarmed that the current president of the United States lacks the capability to discharge the duties of his office,' he said. 'Our enemies do not confine their designs to between 10am and 4pm. We need a commander-in-chief who can lead 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.'
DeSantis added the zinger: 'America cannot afford four more years of a Weekend at Bernie's presidency.'
Trump, who was shown on the jumbotron at Fiserv Forum, chuckled at DeSantis' joke with a flat-mouthed smile.
'That's great,' he appeared to say.
'Let's be honest here,' Desantis continued. 'Biden is just a figurehead. He's a tool for imposing a leftist agenda on the American people.'

Much like the movie, MAGA Republicans claim that Biden is a 'puppet' for those really running the country behind the scenes.
DeSantis and Trump have had a rocky relationship over the years.
It was Trump who helped propel DeSantis into the spotlight and earn him his first primary victory that led him to being governor of Florida in 2018.
But when Trump made it clear it would be a 'betrayal' for DeSantis to run against him in the Republican primary, the governor still launched his bid.
Now, after dropping out of the race before the New Hampshire primary election day, DeSantis is back on Team Trump and backing his bid for president.
