At least 10 people have died and a further 39 have been left injured after a horrific bus crash in Turkey.

An official confirmed that the incident occured on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) highway in Yenice on Sunday, according to reports.

Police, ambulances and fire services rushed to the scene in Turkey's southern Mersin province after the bus skidded into the opposite lane and collided with oncoming traffic.

The intercity passenger bus reportedly veered into the wrong lane due to rainy weather causing it to slip, however an investigation has been launched by authorities and the reasons for the crash are yet to be clarified.

Two other cars and a truck were involved in the pile up that followed, reports the Ihlas News Agency and Xinhua.
