Two Marseille players 'were SHOT at in attempted carjacking at 4am, leaving their vehicles covered in bullet holes, as they travelled home from game at Le Havre'

Two Olympique Marseille players were shot at in attempted carjackings in the early hours of Monday morning, according to a report.

Midfielder Jean Onana and forward Faris Moumbagna, who both represent Cameroon at international level, were at attacked around four in the morning, according to a report by Le Parisien, with their vehicles left covered in bullet holes. 

Their vehicles were leaving La Commanderie, Marseille's training base, following their 2-1 victory at Le Havre on Sunday, the final game of their season. 


The report claims that the players were not injured, but several bullet holes were made on the driver's doors and the trunk of the cars.

A judicial source said the perpetrators seemed to know the players' schedules, but fled after failing to steal the vehicles.

Defender Jean Onana, on loan from Besiktas, was also targeted, but both players were unhurt

It is reported that Moumbagna was the most affected of the two by the night-time attack, according to information reported in the French media. 

Onana, who is currently on loan from Turkish club Besiktas, sent reassuring messages to those around him, according to the report. 

Another member of the squad, Ivorian defender Bamo Meite, followed the other two drivers out of the training base, and witnessed the attemped carjacking incidents, but was not targeted himself. 

The Marseille prosecutor's office has opened an official investigation, entrusted to the Division of Organized and Specialized Crime.  

Olympique Marseille have made no official public reaction, but have been working with their players, as well as aiding the official proceedings.

Marseille's 2-1 win at Le Havre on Sunday night meant they finished Ligue 1 in eighth place

An internal source at the club told Le Parisien: 'They are in good health but extremely shocked, just like the club which is in constant contact with all its players but also with the competent authorities.' 

Following their final game of the Ligue 1 season on Sunday night, Marseille finished the campaign in eighth place.
