Two women are arrested after man stabbed on London Underground: Victim is fighting for his life as police close Seven Sisters station

Two women have been arrested after a man was stabbed during rush-hour on the London Underground.

Police were called to Seven Sisters underground station at 8.48am today to reports of a 'serious assault'.  

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man had been stabbed. He was taken to hospital with 'life-threatening injuries'.  

Two women have been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent. One has also been arrested on suspicion of common assault.

The incident prompted a large response from emergency services and the area outside the station was quickly cordoned off from members of the public. 

Seven Sisters station is currently 'exit only', police have said, as investigations continue.

The incident has caused major disruption to commuters, with traffic backed up around Seven Sisters station (pictured) 

One person, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Hackney Gazette she saw a man 'clutching his chest saying he'd been stabbed'.

She said: 'Multiple emergency service vehicles arrived on the scene within seconds and he was being resuscitated at the scene at the tube exit nearest to West Green Road. It was horrendous.'

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: 'Officers were called to Seven Sisters underground station at 8.48am today (23 July) to reports of a serious assault.

'Paramedics also attended and a male has been taken to hospital with injuries that are consistent with being stabbed. His injuries are believed to be life threatening.

'Two females have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. One has also been further arrested on suspicion of common assault. They remain in police custody and enquiries are ongoing.

'The underground station remains closed while officers investigate, and passengers will see an increased policing presence in the area.

Traffic was seen building around the area earlier today and a bus lane was closed.

TfL said: 'This station is open for exit only while police respond to an incident. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses via any reasonable route.'
