Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has shared another insight into his recovery from his ACL injury.
The England international suffered the knee injury during the season opener against Newcastle back in August, putting an end to his before it had barely started and ruling him out of the European Championships in the summer.
Mings, who was in tears as he was taken off on a stretcher, had led Villa fans to believe that he was considering retirement as he shared a post on his Instagram account in November.
The 30-year-old had posted a black and white picture of himself sat with his head looking to the ground with the caption: 'Grateful for all your support. I'll share an update with you all later today.'
He however released a video - titled 'it's not pretty but it's worth it' - giving fans an update on his current status, and has now done so again, with more of a focus on his immediate recovery following the injury at the start of the season.
Tyrone Mings shared another update on his recovery from his ACL injury suffered at the start of the season
Footage showed Mings in hospital as he detailed the 'excruciating pain' he was in post-surgery
'So after the first video of giving you a little glimpse into what I've been up to, this video is a little introduction into the first two weeks after surgery, with everything it entails coming to terms with injury,' Mings begins, speaking over footage of himself in hospital. 'Hopefully it will shed a little bit of light into the reality of what it looks like.
The video then jumps back to August 12, the day in which Mings suffered the ACL injury at St James's Park.
'It's been about five hours since the injury,' Mings is seen saying, appearing to be sat on his bed. 'I've just got home and I'm in a lot of pain, here's to the next few months.'
'I know from being injured before that some days are good, some days are bad, some days you feel a little positive, some days you're feeling a little bit sorry for yourself.
'The news has now gone out to everybody else that the injury is confirmed as a long-term ACL.'
Fans feared that he was going to announce his retirement before the last video he posted
The 30-year-old had promised to be an important player for Unai Emery's Villa team this term
The video then jumps to August 16, the day of Mings's surgery, when he learnt that the injury he had suffered was more than just an ACL issue.
'Originally I thought it was an ACLL injury alone but the surgeon done a few extra things and without going into details there's a little cartilage damage as well so a really tough one to wake up to post sugery,' Mings voiced over.
With the video cutting to a clip of him in a hospital bed, the defender says: 'I'm in excruciating pain. I cannot put any weight on my knee. I's a marathon not a sprint, it's just going to take a little longer.'
More footage of Mings post-surgery is then shown, including a focus on his knee and how it was improving since being operated on.
'The first couple of weeks after surgery were up and down,' the voice over continued. 'I was in and out of hospital a couple of times as I was ill.
'I think one of the things that people don't always take into consideration is the lack of independence being on crutches as someone who is used to being very active, having to rely on people is obviously a tough situation to be in.
'Sitting in the background and watching the team on TV fills me with huge pride, sometimes a little bit of frustration that I'm not playing, but it was all good in the end, it was just a difficult start to the first few weeks of rehab.
His season had barely started when he was ruled out of the campaign and Euro 2024
Mings has promised to show further updates after details the first few weeks post-surgery
As positive music starts to play in the background, the video cuts to September 24, over a month after the surgery, and shows Mings working out and walking unaided.
He can be seen in the gym undergoing light exercises, with the video ending with the words: 'More insights to come.'
The defender has received wide-spread praise for sharing videos on his recovery, offering an insight into what goes on behind the scenes that fans don't necessarily see.
'Love the insight into your journey Ty, you make us prouder,' one Aston Villa fan replied, while another said: 'Just think of the reception you will get when you return to the turf at Villa Park big man. We will be waiting for you.'
