The man killed in a hit-and-run while he was travelling in an Uber has been identified as tributes pour in from heartbroken family and friends.

Ryan Grafton, 30, was a passenger in an Uber when a man in a stolen Ford Mondeo allegedly ran a red light and crashed into the rideshare car at high speed.

The crash took place at 2.15am on Tuesday at the intersection of Boundary Road and Progress Road in Wacol, 22 km southwest of Brisbane's CBD.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Mr Grafton could not be saved.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver of the Ford Mondeo ran away and remains on the run, with police calling his actions 'despicable'.

The Uber driver, a 42-year-old man, suffered back injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A 26-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Camry at the time of the crash, was taken to hospital for treatment of chest and abdominal pain.

The grief-stricken family of Mr Grafton said he would be deeply missed by his friends and loved ones.

'Ryan was a kind person. He wasn't perfect but he had the biggest heart,' they said in a statement.

'He was loved by his family and friends.'

Queensland Police have urged the man to come forward as detectives from the Forensic Crash Unit conduct investigations into the incident.

While the vehicle involved was a Ford Mondeo, the licence plates were registered to a Holden Barina.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage about the incident has been urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
