Five people are in hospital after eating toxic mushroom gummies, with some patients experiencing disturbing hallucinations.

An urgent health warning has been issued for Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane varieties.

Patients reported experiencing the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, disturbing hallucinations, seizure-like activity and involuntary movement (such as arms/legs twitching, eye movement), anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness and racing heart/pulse.

NSW Poisons Information Centre medical director Dr Darren Roberts has urged people not to consume the products.

'We are strongly recommending that people do not consume these products,' Dr Roberts said.

Dr Roberts said the products should be disposed of safely away from children and pets.

'Investigations are ongoing as to what these products contain,' Dr Roberts said.

The NSW Chief Health Officer has issued a warning under Section 12A of the Public Health Act, for the community not to consume Uncle Frog's Mushroom Gummies.

Since April 2024, at least five people have been treated in NSW hospitals after consuming the gummies.

Hospitalisations have also been recorded interstate.

The product’s packaging claims it is 'infused with Earth’s finest hemp'.

It claims the Lion’s Mane lollies 'supports memory and focus'.

The Cordyceps variety is claimed to boost 'natural energy and power'.

The gummies were available online, though the website has now been taken down.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand has issued a recall for the gummies due to the presence of unapproved novel food ingredients (Lion's Mane, Cordyceps).

Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If people experience symptoms or are unwell, please contact the NSW Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26, or if seriously ill call Triple Zero.

More to come.
