Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson has been named the WNBA's Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season.

The 28-year-old forward has won the award for the third time, having been crowned MVP in 2020 and 2022.

After receiving the unanimous vote, Wilson joins Cynthia Cooper-Dyke as the second player to sweep the voting.

Wilson also joins an elite crew with Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson as the only players to back three MVP awards - the most in the league's young history.

Her achievement also put the Aces franchise in fourth place for the teams with the most MVP wins. The Los Angeles Sparks leads the leas, followed by the Houston Comets and the Seattle Storm, with six, five, and four MVPs, respectively.

The reigning Finals MVP has had a historic season as she leads the Aces in their three-peat pursuit. Wilson recorded single-season highs in points, rebounds, and shots.

In another dominant year, the South Carolina product led the league with 1,021 points, 451 rebounds, and 98 blocks.

Furthermore, her MVP season saw Wilson break the record in points per game, with 26.9, shattering Diana Taurasi's 25.3 mark, which stood since 2006.

The Aces finished the regular season with the fourth seed in the WNBA standings, putting them against Seattle in the opening round. Also in their bracket is the matchup between top-seeded New York and eighth-placed Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Lynx and Mercury will square off in the first round to take on the winner between the Sun and the Fever in the semifinals.

Vegas' path to gold last year started with a sweep over Chicago, followed by another in Dallas. They then closed out a series with 2023 MVP Breanna Stewart and the Liberty to bring another title to Sin City.
