All the stars who've come out as gay or LGBTQ in 2024 as Pride Month gets underway

Coming out takes courage - and many celebrities are leading the charge with their own inspiring public proclamations. 

Be it gay, trans, non-binary or queer, 2024 has seen a host of prominent figures from across the entertainment and sports industries proudly reveal their LGBTQ identities.   

With Pride Month well underway, DailyMail.com has compiled a list of some of the biggest names who have come out this year so far.    

Maren Morris (musician)

Maren Morris publicly came out of as bisexual on Sunday, in honor of LGBTQAI Pride month.

Sophia Bush (actress)

Back in April, Sophia Bush broke her silence about her much-talked about love life - coming out as queer in an essay for Glamour magazine.

The 41-year-old star, featured on the cover without a shirt, dished on her close relationship with USWNT athlete Ashlyn Harris, 38, following her divorce from Grant Hughes in 2023, whom she'd wed months earlier.

She revealed in her own words how she now identifies as queer, writing at one point, 'I feel like I can finally breathe'.

The Chicago PD actress also revealed she is 'in love' with Harris - whom she became friends with in 2019 before they pair started a romantic relationship in October 2023 after her marriage ended.

'I didn't expect to find love in this support system,' said the star, noting how her bond with Harris was rare and beautiful. 

'I don't know how else to say it other than: I didn't see it until I saw it.'

The One Tree Hill star further recalled the first time she told her previous partners she was attracted to women. Prior to Hughes, she was married to costar Chad Michael Murray from 2005 until 2006.

Reneé Rapp  (singer/actress)

Back in February, Mean Girls Musical star Reneé Rapp made waves when she told The Hollywood Reporter: 'It is the coolest thing ever because I've only recently started referring to myself as a lesbian.

'I've only recently been in a relationship where I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm a lesbian for sure.' 

Within weeks, she made her red carpet debut with fellow musician Towa Bird, at the Vanity Fair 2024 Oscars Party on Sunday in Beverly Hills.

The actress, 24, wowed in a white shirt dress with a plunging crossover top and a thigh high slit.

The unfolding move from Rapp, who came out as bisexual in 2022, followed an SNL hosting performance earlier in year.

There, the actor was described by fans and media as 'hard-launching' her lesbian identity.

She explained her thought process at the time, sharing: 'I didn't want to do it and be like, 'Oh my God, I'm not using the word 'bisexual,' and make bisexual people feel shitty''. 

'I also didn't want to be like, 'OK, I'm 'gay' and have all the lesbians be like, 'Say you're bisexual, then.' I felt so wrapped up and scared.' 

Despite this, she has affirmed and re-affirmed her new identity ever since.

Bethany Antonia (actress)

House of the Dragon star Bethany Antonia, 26, came out as gay in April, while calling out an internet user over a racist message sent in response to an Instagram Story.

Antonia, who has appeared in eight episodes of the show's second season, blew off the vitriol with humor, writing in a caption, 'Wait till they find out I'm gay too…'

The actress, who has also starred in shows such as Netflix's Stay Close and the BBC's Get Even, went on to add an emoji of a clown's face, and was seen smiling in a separate shot on her Instagram Stories minutes later.

She plays Lady Baela Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series.

Colin Grafton (reality star)

Dancing on Ice's Colin Grafton publicly came out as gay in February.

The 32-year-old professional figure skater, who once competed in the Olympic, came out to his family and close friends when he was 24, but has now opened up about his sexuality in an interview with Pink News.

'It's been a long journey,' he began. 'But now I am proud of myself and I'm proud of my sexual orientation and I want to let other people know that they should be proud of every part of themselves too.'

Originally from Boston, Grafton went on to explain how growing up there in the '90 and 2000s wasn't always easy for a male figure skater, not to mention a gay man. 

'I remember feeling so nervous at various points in my childhood,' he said. 'You know, I'd be skating and the hockey players would come and bang on the side of the rink and shout words. 

'That was something all male skaters had to deal with back then. 

'It wasn't easy but all of it made me stronger because I took it and focused everything on my sport.'

In the years that ensued, he became a star skater in a hit reality competition show.

At one point, he worried he would be stereotyped if he came out publicly, telling Pink: 'I was really nervous of doing that to myself.

'It was like, OK, if I come out as gay then people are going to think I'm this or that, when in reality the human sexuality spectrum is so vast and it's just one small part of the person you are.'

Now living out loud and proud, he went on to advise young people coming to terms with their own sexuality: 'There is no rush and there's no pressure to come out. 

'You have to do it on your own terms and in your own time and find that love for yourselves.'

Grace Wilson (A-League soccer player)

In March, Adelaide United goalkeeper Grace Wilson became the first non-binary professional footballer in Australia, while declaring a burning desire to be 'free'.

The 19-year-old Australian informed teammates on Friday and the youngster stated they felt 'phenomenal' after receiving widespread support.

'I'm non-binary. That's it. I can't deny it anymore,' they said. 

'It was like this huge weight had lifted, because for so long, I had felt something was different,' they continued.

'Finally hearing people refer to me as 'they/them', it's a phenomenal and euphoric feeling.'

Non-binary refers to people who do not relate to being either exclusively male or female.

Madame LaQueer (reality star)

RuPaul's Drag Race season 4 star Madame LaQueer came out as trans on her Instagram Story in January, publicly embracing her identity as Madame Cassandra Uzumaki LaQueer.

'It's something I've been pondering for myself for years,' she told Entertainment Weekly at the time, explaining how she'd go by the name Cassie even while not in costume.

'It's now or never…It's never too late to come out and live your true experience and be yourself and be authentic. There's nothing like feeling loved in your own skin.'

Amanda Tori Meating (reality star)

Days later, another 'Drag Race' star in Amanda Tori Meating also came out as trans.

The declaration came in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, during which the New York City-based reality star who became a fan-favorite on the show's 16th season.

While doing so, she reflected on tension with another cast member, Plane Jane, and how a moment of freedom following painful divorce helped her affirm her identity.

'When we were filming Drag Race I was about five months fresh out of a divorce,' she recalled of filming the show in 2023, and how the experience of being 'bullied' by her ex-spouse ultimately helped her focus on putting herself first - including on the at-times drama-filled show. 

'I think [Plane] caught me at the sweet spot of my healing journey,' she said. 

'I'm not giving you the response you're looking for, whatever that was. I'm sitting here like a real f**king person and I'm telling you, "I do not like this, please stop."'

She went on to recall how her split stemmed in part from her then-husband's unwillingness to be with her due to her 'gender exploration journey.'

Parvati Shallow (reality star)

Survivor winner Parvati Shallow came out as gay to ring in the New Year, uploading an Instagram photo with partner, Mae Martin, to share the big news.

The 41-year-old reality star - who was previously married to fellow Survivor alum John Fincher - captioned the post as: 'We're here. We're queer. Happy new year.' 

The TV personality who won season 40 of the show in 2020 proceeded to hold up a series of black and white images that both she and the comedian, 36, had taken in a photo booth. 

The pair could be seen cozying up next to each other and in one of the pictures, the couple also shared a kissed. 

Social media users jumped to the comment section to share their excitement, including author Adam Grant who wrote: 'So thrilled for you. Bring on the new Black Widow Brigade' - a reference to the Survivor competition series. 

Writer Evan Ross Katz added: 'A perfect pair. Honored to have played the tiniest role in this epic link-up. Love you both.'
