Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes speak out about 'rough' relationship problems two years after scandalous affair: 'Rockier than the ocean waves'

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have opened up about their 'rough' relationship issues as they admitted they put their romance 'on the back burner' - two years after their scandalous affair sent shockwaves through ABC.

The former Good Morning America host, 51, was exposed by DailyMail.com for having an affair with 46-year-old cohost T.J. in 2022. 

Since then, the couple has been embroiled in intense controversy over their relationship as their romance got them fired from ABC and saw them separating from their respective partners. 

Now, the lovebirds are revealing that their PDA-riddled love affair hasn't been all smooth sailing. 

During a recent episode of their podcast, Amy & T.J., they confessed that there had been trouble in paradise lately as they had made their romance 'secondary.' 

The couple shared that they forgot about their own relationship because they became so focused on work. 

Amy explained: 'We are together all the time, but either we were with the kids or we were working, and we were working a lot, which is great—we love to work. But we didn't get to have, like, us time. 

'We work together and we are in a relationship together and we were friends before as colleagues, so it's a strange thing like you've got the work relationship and then you've got the romantic relationship, and the two actually don't coexist.' 

Her lover echoed her opinions and admitted that they didn't prioritize each other. 

'We might be in an autopilot relationship, the relationship becomes secondary. We stopped making our relationship a priority, I think is fair to say,' he added. 

The couple admitted that the first day they had alone time after their romance was outed 'wasn't great.' 

Amy said: 'I think sometimes anything that's built up that hasn't been verbalized just because you haven't had the alone time to actually have true connections, it all kind of comes out in whatever way it does. So the first day was a little rough, but we're good now.'

T.J joked: 'Ha, a little rough. It was rockier than the ocean waves.' 

The lovebirds said that in an attempt to rekindle their spark, they booked a romantic getaway, however, it only made them even more frustrated. 

Amy revealed that she had booked their tickets and had accidentally listed her boyfriend's birthday as 1997 instead of 1977, which got him flagged by TSA. 

She explained: 'I clearly made the reservation, so it was completely my fault. So not only did I rob you of the TSA pre-check, I then got us flagged—or got you flagged—because I entered your incorrect birth year. ' 

While trying to help, Amy admitted that she ended up making the situation 'worse' by interrupting her boyfriend's talks with security. 

T.J. added: 'There's nothing to get onto you for, I know you felt bad about it. There was no reason to make you feel worse.' 

They admitted that although they can 'laugh about it now' and are more in love than ever, they didn't utter one word to each other during the flight.

DailyMail.com exclusively broke the news that Amy and T.J. had been embroiled in a secret love affair back in November 2022 - while they were both married to other people.

Amy wed her now-ex-husband, Melrose Place alum Andrew Shue, in February 2009, while T.J. tied the knot with his now-ex-wife, Marilee Fiebig, in 2010.

At the time, DailyMail.com obtained a slew of images that showed them enjoying late-night rendezvous and romantic getaways, holding hands in Ubers, and slipping in and out of each other's apartments.

The TV stars grew first close after they both landed jobs at ABC, and when they became cohosts of GMA3 in 2020, their chemistry was undeniable almost immediately.

They were often caught giggling to one another, partaking in sarcastic banter, and engaging in playful touches on the air - and their antics quickly turned them into one of ABC's most popular on-screen duos.

But their flirty interactions and sweet exchanges seemed innocent at first - especially since the were both happily married to other people and seemed fiercely dedicated to their respective partners.

In addition, Amy, once insisted T.J. was like a 'brother' to her - which is why when it was brought to light that they had secretly become embroiled in a romance behind-the-scenes in late 2022, fans were left stunned.

Soon after news hit the web that they were dating, both Amy and T.J. quietly separated from their respective partners, and were fired from their positions at ABC. 

Despite being shrouded in scandal, the couple put on a very public display of unity in the wake of the news - flaunting their love for the entire world to see as their previous marriages and jobs crumbled.

It seemed as though they were relieved to not have to hide it any longer, and they began packing on the PDA all over the world while jetting off on a slew of lavish vacations together. 

They announced that they were launching their joint podcast in November 2023, writing on social media at the time, 'How's this for Instagram official?' before using the hashtag, 'Silent No More.'

During the first episode one month later, T.J. and Amy reflected on the explosive scandal, but he insisted that their divorces from their respective spouses were underway before they began their romance.

Following the respective divorces, Andrew entered a love affair with Marilee. 

The two have been going strong since - with insiders claiming that their romance is the 'real deal.'
