An artist has been killed and three other women were injured after they were stabbed in a 'random' attack on a Louisiana college campus.

Annie Richardson was knifed as she left an exercise class near Louisiana Tech University on Monday. She was in critical condition at the hospital before she died on Tuesday evening, according to local television station KLAX-TV.

Retired Lincoln Parish Judge Cynthia Woodard, Tech grad student Dominique McKane and retired teacher Debbie Hollimon were also stabbed.

Louisiana Tech student Jacoby Johnson, 23, was arrested over the attacks and has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes said authorities were not aware of anything 'that would indicate concerning behavior' for the suspect before the attack.

'There was no rhyme or reason,' Hermes said.

Johnson lived in an off-campus apartment and was previously detained in February for marijuana possession.

The random knife attack occurred outside the Lambright Sports & Wellness Center on the northern Louisiana campus. One witness said married artist Richardson had her throat slashed.

'My prayers are with Annie’s husband Peter, the entire Richardson family, and all who called Annie a friend,' Louisiana Tech President Les Guice said.

'Our Tech family will feel the pain of this incident for some time, but we are fortunate to have such a caring community to rely upon as we grieve together.'

Woodard and McKane are currently being treated at Shreveport hospital, but Hollimon, who sustained a cut on her face trying to protect McKane, declined treatment.

'I just ran up screaming, "Get off her! Get away from her!" Hollimon told KTBS.

'He stands up and looks at me with no expression — just as flat as can be.'

Hollimon added the attacker cut her across the right side of her face with a short blade before walking away.

McKane's husband, Chandler McKane, set up a GoFundMe page for her and said she suffered seven stabbed wounds, a vertebrae fracture and a pneumothorax.

He added she also has a significant head wound and would need future plastic surgery.

The family is asking for support for her 'upcoming extensive medical treatment' and almost $2,000 had been raised so far with a $15,000 goal.

Freshman student Colin Campbell reacted quickly after hearing screams and placed Richardson and Woodard in his pickup truck before driving to a local hospital.

He said Richardson had a wounded throat and collapsed in the back seat of his vehicle as he arrived at the hospital.

She was then airlifted to Shreveport hospital, where she later died.

Richardson worked with mixed media on canvas as an artist, according to her website.

She studied at the Sarah Lawrence College of Art in Lacoste, France and Newcomb College in New Orleans and earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
