Cringe moment Elizabeth Warren joins 'Swifties for Kamala Harris' Zoom rally: 'My favorite song is Karma'

Sen. Elizabeth Warren dialed into a 'Swifties for Kamala' Zoom call on Tuesday night to share her favorite Taylor Swift songs in an effort to sway voters.  

She joined music legend and self-proclaimed 'original cat lady' Carole King for the virtual rally which attracted thousands of Swift fans. 

The singer famously backed Biden and Harris in 2020 but is yet to formally endorse either candidate. 

Democrats are desperate for her support. 

At the event last night, Warren revealed her favorite Swift song - 'Karma' - as she appealed to young female voters. Thirty-four thousand of them logged on for the call, raising $122,000 in donations for Harris. 

'You are resilient! You know how to take on bullies and overcome pretty much anything that life throws at you!' Warren encouraged the crowd.  

'That is what the Kamala Harris campaign is all about. It's about standing up for what is right in the face of bullies like Donald Trump.' 

She accused Trump and his campaign of trying to 'claw us back into the dark days, where women have to wait until they're on the verge of death to get the abortion care they need', and raised concerns about climate change.

Speaking in Swiftie terminology, Warren told those on the call there are 70 days until the election, 24 hours in a day - or '144 All Too Well 10 minute versions' - to help Harris secure the 47th presidency.

'Just like you've done every time before, we will push this boulder up the hill, and we will win in November.

'I am looking forward to the era of the first woman president. So please, get in the fight, knock on doors, make phone calls.

'Swifties, you can get this done.'

After Warren's emphatic message, self proclaimed 'cat lady' and musician Carole King was introduced to the Zoom call.

In a clear reference to Trump running mate JD Vance's 'childless cat lady' quip, King was introduced as 'the original cat lady, definitely one of our people.'

Swift also considers herself a cat lady. She has three cats, Olivia Benson, Meredith Grey and Benjamin Button. Olivia, a Scottish Fold, is the world's third richest pet with an estimated net worth of $97million.

King, 82, spoke briefly about her friendship with Swift, who introduced her into the Rock n' Roll hall of fame and covered one of her songs.

In return, she performed her own rendition of her favourite Swift song, Shake It Off. After singing a few lines and waving her arms on Zoom, she fell silent and there was a delay before the hosts took the microphone again.

She said: 'We have a lovely relationship, and I'm so proud of her. I see her as sort of my musical and songwriting granddaughter.'

On Kamala's candidacy, King said: 'I am so excited about Kamala because so many people are excited about Kamala.'

Drawing on her own past experience as a doorknocker - 'even as a famous person' - King encouraged Swifties to have open, honest and friendly conversations with their community.

'Don't be afraid,' she said. 'There is too much at stake.'

Swifties For Kamala social media channels have amassed a combined 150,000 followers - despite no word from Swift herself about who she is backing this year.

The pop megastar did endorse the Biden Harris campaign in 2020, and has on several occasions spoken out in favor of Democratic candidates.

She also said in the past she was 'completely blindsided' by Trump's 2016 victory.

It is unclear whether she intends to wade into the debate this year, as she embarks on a global tour.

There were questions about whether she would be forced to speak up after Trump shared AI-generated posts on his social media platform Truth Social suggesting he has gained the support of Swift and her fans.

Two weeks ago, he posted deepfaked images of women wearing shirts that read 'Swifties For Trump', as well as a poster of the singer dressed like Uncle Sam and urging her fans to vote for the GOP nominee.
