Donald Trump's advantage over President Joe Biden in the battleground state of Michigan grew by 4 percent after the assassination attempt, according to a new poll.

Before the debate between Trump and Biden last month, the former president was ahead by 4 percent in a head-to-head hypothetical matchup.

After the disastrous performance by Biden last month and Trump getting shot at a Pennsylvania rally last Saturday, Michigan voters in a Detroit Free Press/EPIC-MRA poll now favor the former president by 7 percent.

Trump held his first rally following the assassination attempt in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was indoors, which is atypical of a Trump rally, but allowed security more controlled access points.

The rally was also the first after Trump became the official GOP nominee in 2024 at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

A new poll shows Trump widening his lead by 4 percent over President Joe Biden in the swing state of Michigan

Biden flipped Michigan blue in 2020, beating Trump by 2.8 percent after the Republican won the rust belt swing state in 2016 by just 0.3 percent.

When third party candidates were considered among the 600 likely voters in Michigan, the five-way race showed Trump ahead by the same seven percent margin – 43 percent to 36 percent.

The poll taken before the debate that included front-runner third-party candidates still had Trump ahead by a small margin of 3 percent – 41 percent to 38 percent.

Notably, the former president is ahead in every single region of the swing state, including the deep blue city of Detroit and its surrounding areas.

This is quite possibly the biggest indicator that the political sway has shifted for Biden in the 2024 race amid a slew of calls from Democrats for him to step aside.

Trump held his first post-nomination rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, July 20 – exactly a week after he was shot in an assassination attempt at his event in Butler, Pennsylvania

Despite the slim edge, Trump is leading in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties by a 46 percent to 44 percent margin, according to the latest poll.

In this region, Biden beat Trump 56 percent to 40 percent in 2020.

The horrible polling for Biden is likely to contribute to the president's consideration of his next steps, EPIC-MRA pollster Bernie Porn claims.

'It's only going to add to the pressure on Biden to step aside and have someone replace him,' said Lansing-based pollster. 'The Democrats are in a difficult position.'
