Thomas Matthew Crooks joined a gun club less than a year before shooting Donald Trump.

The would-be assassin visited the range 43 times and through 2024 went to target practice three to six times per month, according to records obtained by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).

Clairton Sportsmen's Club turned over the documents to Grassley the logs of the times when Crooks visited the club.

Thomas Matthew Crooks joined a gun range less than a year before shooting Donald Trump at a Butler rally last month and visited the club 43 times throughout 2024

The 20-year-old used his father's AR-style weapon to fire from a nearby rooftop at a Trump tally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.

A bullet grazed the former president's right ear, missing his brain by just millimeters. One rally goer was killed and two others were critically injured before the Secret Service neutralized Crooks.

FBI Director Christopher Wray shared bombshell new details with Congress, including that Crooks had visited a shooting range the day before the rally.

The new information provided to Grassley reveals that Crooks' final visit to the shooting range was at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

An analysis of the Clairton Sportsmen's Club logs show that Crooks spent 80 percent of his time at the range doing rifle practice with long guns rather than handguns.

And the obsession even overshadowed the holidays as he spent Christmas Day, Valentine's and Halloween at the club in Clairton, Pennsylvania.

Wray was unable to tell lawmakers if Crooks carried the gun to the rooftop just 400 feet from the stage or if he stashed it prior to climbing up.

He also said that Crooks and his family owned a combined 14 guns and the AR weapon he used to shoot at Trump was purchased legally by his father and sold to him in October 2023.

Still not much is known about Crooks or his motive for targeting Trump. He had a very small to nonexistent social media footprint, was a registered Republican but donated in 2021 to a progressive group backing President Joe Biden.
