Emmys viewers blast 'ridiculous' awards show as 'boring' - and slam 'woke' political jabs: 'Turned it off'

Viewers have blasted the 2024 Emmys as 'boring' and 'predictable' - and fiercely slammed the 'woke' political jabs made throughout the awards show.

Hollywood's finest descended upon the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 76th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening.

The event, hosted by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy, honored the biggest TV shows, actors, and actresses from this year - with The Bear, Baby Reindeer, and Shogun taking home a majority of the awards.

But many people who were watching at home took to X, formerly Twitter, during the event to blast the awards show for its lack of 'creativity.'

One person scathed that the three-hour long show 'just featured people getting awards' and nothing exciting like performances or comedic monologues, while another said it was 'ridiculous' to see the same people and shows win over and over again.

'Emmys have been boring for a while. They choose one show in comedy and drama and give it all awards. No tension, no surprise, nothing,' one person wrote.

'This is getting boring and ridiculous to see the same faces win,' another agreed.

'The Emmys has got to be the most boring awards show on the planet,' someone else tweeted.

'What a snooze fest of an Emmys,' a fourth tweet read, while a fifth simply said, 'Emmys so predictable and so boring.'

'Sorry but the Emmys show is extremely boring. It’s not sustainable to entertain TV audiences for three long hours just featuring people getting awards,' a different user scathed.

'Be more creative and include performances, less talking and a bit less envelope openings.'

'If there was an Emmy award for the most boring show, tonight’s Emmys would win in a walk,' someone else joked.

'The Emmys really need a revamp. It’s so boring and uninspiring that they keep awarding the same shows year-after-year,' another person wrote.

Others were unamused with the political comments sprinkled into the speeches throughout the night.

At one point during the show, Selena Gomez threw in a sarcastic reference to J.D. Vance's now-infamous 'childless cat lady' statement.

The singer appeared onstage alongside her Only Murders In The Building co-stars and nominees Steve Martin and Martin Short to present Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

'Steve, let me just say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like he's fallen and can't get up,' Martin said.

'And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women's tennis champion,' added Steve.

Selena then responded with, 'And let me say what an honor it is work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.'

Murphy Brown star Candice Bergen also referenced J.D.'s comment when she presented the award for outstanding actress in a comedy series.

'Today a Republican candidate for Vice President would never attack a woman for having kids. So as they say, my work here is done. Meow,' she said.

Plus, during her acceptance speech, The Bear star Liza Colon-Zayas took a moment to urge viewers to get out and vote.

'Thank you for giving me a new life with this show, and to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights,' she told the audience.

Social media users were unamused by the numerous political references, with some even writing that they 'turned the show off' because of it.

'I turned it [off] at the first mention of anything political. I don’t care who it was for or against I can’t stand celebrities talking about politics at award shows,' one person chimed in afterwards. 'Ugh ... the Emmy’s are not the same anymore.'

'The Emmys and other pop culture spaces shouldn't be used to make political stances/bring awareness to social issues because people are consuming these shows to escape it and take a f**king mental break,' someone else agreed.

A third person added, 'Nothing like watching entitled rich actors trying to get political messages through (for free) during the Emmys.'

'As soon as the Emmys became political I turned it off,' another user revealed. 'What makes people from Hollywood think Americans care about their opinion? That it has more weight than ANY American?'

'Emmy awards - still suck, still political, still boring. It only took 30 seconds to turn it off. LOL,' a different tweet read.

'I used to watch the Emmys in the '80s and '90s but recently it became so WOKE. I don’t watch anymore,' someone else said.
