Former NFL star Sergio Brown has reportedly pleaded not guilty to the murder of his mother after being charged and taken into custody earlier this year.

Brown's mother Myrtle, 73, was beaten to death and dumped in a creek behind their house in Maywood, Illinois and her body was found September 16. Brown was  reported missing alongside her by his concerned brother Nick.

It eventually emerged that the 35-year-old had traveled to Mexico, where he posted a number of erratic videos to social media. He was then deported before being taken into custody in October.

He is said to have appeared in front of a judge later that month in a hearing which took place just a few miles from where he is accused of killing Myrtle and dumping her body in a creek.

Yet according to TMZ Sports, Brown pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body before an Illinois judge on Wednesday.

The former safety is now due back for another hearing case later in the month.

Brown was first taken into custody on October 10 after being found by authorities in Mexico, where he was seen partying and dancing following his mother's passing.

Despite the family tragedy and ongoing police investigation, he was spotted living it up at a Tulum beach club, dancing shirtless with scantily-clad women.

Brown said he thought his mom had gone on vacation in one social media video.

In the clip, in which he tagged ESPN, Brown says: 'Fake news. It has to be the FBI, they came into my house...unwarranted.

'They kidnapped me twice from home, the Maywood Police Department. It had to be the FBI or the Maywood Police. I thought my momma was on vacation.'

Brown was also photographed relaxing in a booth with a bottle of tequila propped up in front of him.

He was last seen with his mom on August 25 as they left their home to go to a family reunion in Mississippi that they never showed up to.

Shocking footage also emerged showing Brown brawling on a plane with Mexican officers as they try to extradite him back to the United States to face charges over the murder.

In the clip obtained by CBS8, he could be heard yelling: 'They’re kidnapping me again, I'm from Chicago. I should not be going to Tijuana.'

Two Mexican immigration officers were seen attempting to restrain the ex-NFL defensive, who then shoved one into the aisle and began to try and strike him while the officer deflected the blows.
