There's nothing more disappointing than making a purchase, only to find the item you have excitedly bought isn't quite what you thought it was.

Although everyone is capable of making such an error from time to time, there are occasions on which the packaging of products certainly doesn't help with the confusion - and at times, packaging can even be deceitful.

Disappointed shoppers from around the world have shared photos of their unsuccessful purchases after they were duped by misleading packaging, with some examples collected by Bored Panda.

They include one person who bought a tea towel because they were wooed by its cute cactus print - only to find out the pattern was confined to the portion of material exposed on the packaging..

Elsewhere a foodie in the US was left reeling (and hungry) after forking out $5 for a wrap fo lunch - only to find it was mostly tortilla, with hardly any filling.

Another business wrapped a plastic bottle in torn cardboard to 'Celebrate Mother Earth'.

Why though? People from around the world have been duped into buying products and Bored Panda collated some of the worst into a gallery. Including one person who bought a tea towel only to find out the pattern was the only portion visible on the packaging

A children's book which apparently had 430 stickers however once opened it was revealed 400 of them were monochrome shapes.

Elsewhere a chocolate easter bunny was wrapped in festive paper to appear like a Santa bar.

Not fair! Elsewhere someone, in the US, was fooled into buying a $5 wrap for lunch which was mostly tortilla

Yikes! Another business wrapped a plastic bottle in torn cardboard to 'Celebrate Mother Earth'

Just cruel: A man was shocked to discover his package of cookies didn't actually come with any chocolate chips

Nothing to celebrate! Another person bought a package of '100 straws' only to find there was actually 25 when they counted

Confusing! A 'cat shampoo' which had a picture of a feline on the front of the bottle said it was only recommended for dogs in the instructions

Rip off! A children's book which apparently had 430 stickers however once opened it was revealed 400 of them were monochrome shapes

Clever! This person claimed that manufacturers use green lines on the clear packaging to make the veg look greener
