Fans react with horror to Britney Spears' meltdown amid new fears for her safety

Britney Spears was the topic of discussion Thursday online after making headlines when she was taken out of the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles via ambulance, amid concerns she was experiencing a 'mental health crisis.'

The Grammy-winning singer, 42, on Wednesday was wrapped in a blanket and holding a pillow looking disheveled as first responders assisted her in leaving the Hollywood hub where comic John Belushi infamously overdosed in 1982.

A number of social media users expressed serious concern for the pop star's well-being amid the latest course of events, including Britney herself addressing the incident on social media.  

One fan said on Twitter/X that the pop star was 'probably spiraling' amid an episode of mental illness, adding, 'I honestly don't see this ending well.' 

The fan said they believe the Oops!... I Did It Again artist returned to performing too early after dealing with a series of troubling events more than 15 years ago; wasn't properly treated in the years since; and didn't have the infrastructure in her personal life to handle a similar course of events this time around.

'Honestly she probably never should've returned to performing after her 1st breakdown in 2008 or at least have taken several years off to get intensive therapy,' the fan said. 'Just giving her pills & restrictions was a band-aid & now she has no support system.'

Another fan said they just 'wanna know that Britney Spears is actually okay,' adding, 'I can't tell anymore.' 

One fan called it a 'BAD idea to end the conservatorship' she lived under from 2008-2021, adding, 'At least then she was protected.'

The fan hailed the efforts made by Britney's father Jamie Spears throughout the contentious series of events surrounding the conservatorship, saying that 'her father was & is the only one who truly cared.'

The user also condemned the efforts of the Free Britney movement, saying that the public 'may be watching' the embattled singer's end. 

Another user agreed, saying that Jamie Spears was owed 'a big apology' after the incident on Wednesday at the Chateau Marmont 

One fan praised the efforts of Britney's lawyer Matthew Rosengart and the steadying influence he's had on the pop star in recent years.

'May God bless Matthew Rosengart,' the user said. 'He deserves all the respect in the world.' 

A fan reposted an Instagram post Britney put up Thursday giving her thoughts on the incident, saying that the pop star's ability to communicate directly with her fans is a 'game changer.' 

The fan noted that 'what people did to [Britney] in 2007 can't be [done] to her anymore!!'
