2 months ago 14

Former New York Governor David Paterson has been savagely attacked by a group of teenagers after he and his stepson tried to prevent them from climbing a fire escape in Manhattan.

David Paterson, 70, and his stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa, 20, came across the teenagers on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9pm on Friday.

A confrontation apparently erupted after Paterson, who is blind, and his son told the three young men to stop scaling the fire escape.

The teenagers then launched a senseless attack on the 70-year-old and his stepson. They both suffered injuries to their faces, according to the New York Post.

After the incident, the former governor was rushed to NY Cornell Medical Center, where his condition is reported to be 'ok,' according to NBC.

This incident appears to be only the latest episode in a series of violent and unprovoked attacks that have rocked the big apple.

Last month, an 81-year-old woman was assaulted for no reason outside her apartment building in the Upper West Side.

The male assailant struck her so hard in the back of the head that she hit her nose on a ledge before falling flat on the ground.

He then calmly walked away from the scene, leaving the old woman sprawled out in pain on the sidewalk.

In July, another elderly woman suffered a random attack in Greenwich Village.

Around 9 am, D'yan Forest, 90, who has been dubbed 'the world's oldest working female comedian, was walking to the gym when an unknown woman sucker-punched her in the face.

The force of the blow caused Forest to crumple and fall on the ground, while the attacker fled the scene.

David Paterson is not the first prominent person to have suffered an unprovoked attack in New York.

In May, actor Steve Buscemi was left bruised and bloodied after he was punched in the face in a random assault.

The Brooklyn native, 66, was strolling along Third Avenue near East 27th Street in Kips Bay, in eastern Manhattan, at 11.48am.

A man walked up to the actor and suddenly attacked him outside 369 Third Avenue, then fled.

Buscemi was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was treated for bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye.

'Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,' his publicist said.

According to Vital City, compared with last year, murder and property crimes are down in New York.

However, crimes like rape, robbery, and assault are all up.

This is a developing story.
